The magic of Aave Sound happens in Orion Base, my studio located in the design district of Vallila, Helsinki. Because the studio is not always occupied, it can be rented for projects.
The studio consists of a small tracking room and a control room. Neither space is very big, but the studio is suitable for about 80% of recording projects. Both spaces are isolated, acoustically treated and air conditioned with an unobstructed view between them.
The studio is perfect for recording vocals, guitars, basses and other solo instruments. In the past, it has fit a drum set, but at the sacrifice of convenience.
The Studio is designed so that you can easily bring and plug in your own laptop. An external display, mouse/trackpad and keyboard are at your disposal. The heart of the recording system is the RME Fireface 802 audio interface, which connects with your laptop by firewire 800/Thunderbolt or USB 2.0. You can download RME’s rock solid drivers and software from their website (choose firewire or USB accordingly). Then download Orion Base RME Totalmix template, and you are good to go! If you prefer, Avid (Digidesign) Eleven Rack and UAD Apollo Twin are also available. Your UAD plugins can be powered by UAD Satellite.
The control room has Neumann KH310 3-way midfield speakers, and Avantone Mixcubes as reference speakers. The control room has been measured and has a flat response.
At the moment there is one premium channel for recording vocals: Neumann U87 condenser microphone, API 512c preamp and API 525 compressor, and RME converters. A Shure SM7 microphone is available. Of course you can bring your own preferred microphones or even preamps which can easily be connected via patchbay. RME Totalmix enables zero latency monitoring for musicians with EQ, dynamics and even reverb and delay, if desired.
